In 1823, Meredith Collier moved his family to three land lots in what is now Fulton and Dekalb counties. They had previously moved from North Carolina to Gwinnett County, Georgia. Meredith Collier was a postmaster and a state senator from Dekalb County. George Washington Collier, Meredith's son, rose to prominence in Atlanta. From the description of Papers, 1853-1968.
